Alejandro Plascencia Universidad Autónoma De Sinaloa: A Profile

Alejandro Plascencia Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa

We investigated how calcium propionate (CaPr) supplementation affects the growth and development of calves. We compared two groups: one group received 20 grams of CaPr per calf daily, while the other group received no CaPr. We wanted to see if CaPr supplementation would improve growth performance and dietary energetics.

Calcium propionate is a calcium salt of propionic acid, a short-chain fatty acid. Propionic acid is naturally found in the rumen of cattle and is a key energy source for rumen microbes. CaPr supplementation can increase the amount of propionic acid available in the rumen, which can lead to improved growth performance and dietary energetics.

Our study aimed to determine the impact of CaPr supplementation on growth performance and dietary energetics in calves. Growth performance was measured by monitoring body weight gain and feed conversion efficiency. Dietary energetics was assessed by measuring the digestibility of nutrients and the energy content of the diet.

We expected to find that CaPr supplementation would improve growth performance and dietary energetics in calves. CaPr supplementation could increase the amount of propionic acid available in the rumen, leading to improved microbial activity and increased energy production. This, in turn, could lead to improved growth performance and feed efficiency.

Our study will help us understand how CaPr supplementation can be used to improve the growth performance and dietary energetics of calves. This could have significant implications for the cattle industry, as it could lead to more efficient and sustainable cattle production.
