In 1963, Mazzinghi won the World Middleweight Championship, defeating the reigning champion, Emile Griffith in a thrilling 15-round fight. He defended his title four times before losing it to Dick Tiger in 1966. After his retirement in 1970, Mazzinghi remained a beloved figure in Italian boxing. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1997, and he is still considered one of the most influential boxers in Italian history.
